Abstract: The role of teacher education is pivotal to the holistic development of India’s education system. The National Education Policy 2020, formulated in 2020, places special emphasis on the comprehensive restructuring of teacher education. This paper analyzes the structure, changes, challenges, and prospects of teacher education in light of the NEP 2020. Based on qualitative research methodology—involving the analysis of various policy documents, research papers, and reports—it is observed that significant emphasis has been placed on making teacher education more professional, integrated, and competency-based. Concurrently, importance has also been accorded to the utilization of technology, multi-dimensional pedagogical approaches, and enhancing the professional status of the teaching profession. The paper concludes that, through effective implementation, the NEP 2020 holds the potential to bring about a transformative change in the field of teacher education.
