ABSTRACT: English as a language is the most common means of communication throughout the glove. It plays a pivotal role in the process of globalization and knowledge explosion. English has been crowned with the terms ‘link language’, ‘global language’, ‘lingua franca’. In India, English is regarded as a second language and a compulsory subject of study up to the secondary level where the objectives of teaching English are to develop the basic four skills-listening, speaking, reading and writing. So importance of learning English as a second language in our education system is worth mentioning. While teaching English though a number of methods, approaches and techniques are used but most of them are traditional, less interesting, ineffective as well as less motivating. So if we keep in mind the needs of the hour, it becomes necessary to use the various tools of Information Communication Technology in teaching English. For teachers, ICT is a professional resource, a mode of classroom delivery and a source of valid and valuable text types. For students, ICT provides opportunities to communicate more effectively and also helps in developing literary skills. ICT helps in making the learners attentive and interactive in classroom.
