Abstract: India’s economic and environmental thought has historically evolved within an integrated framework of agriculture, ecology, ethics, and community welfare. Traditional Indian knowledge systems conceptualized economy not merely as material production but as a balanced relationship between humans, nature, and society. Agricultural practices, environmental management, and economic activities were governed by principles of sustainability, reciprocity, and dharma. This paper critically examines Indian economic thought, agricultural practices, and environmental knowledge within the traditional context of National Knowledge Systems (NKS). It analyzes philosophical foundations, historical evolution, ecological practices, and contemporary relevance. The study argues that integrating traditional knowledge with modern economic and environmental policies can contribute significantly to sustainable development and ecological resilience.
