Abstract:

Background: The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has introduced Python programming and computer applications in the revised B.Pharm syllabus to prepare pharmacy graduates for Pharma 4.0.

Objective: This review article explores the implementation strategy, pedagogical importance, and practical applications of Python language for pharmacy students and faculties with relevant pharmacy-specific code examples.

Methods: Literature review of PCI syllabus 2022-24, applications of Python libraries (RDKit, Biopython, Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy) in drug discovery, pharmacokinetics, and bioinformatics was conducted. Results: Python enables automation of dose calculations, ADMET prediction, molecular descriptor calculation, QSAR modeling, pharmacokinetic simulation, and genomic data analysis. Case examples demonstrate 80% reduction in manual calculation time and improved accuracy.

Conclusion: Python literacy is no longer optional for pharmacy faculties. It empowers faculty to teach datadriven pharmacy, undertake AI-based research, and enhance employability of students in pharmaceutical industry, bioinformatics and clinical data management.
