Abstract: The vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 represents India’s aspiration to achieve developed nation status by the centenary of its independence. While economic growth has been a central focus of policy discourse, contemporary development challenges highlight the limitations of a growth-centric model. This paper analyses the need to reframe economic growth within a broader and sustainable development paradigm. By integrating theoretical perspectives, empirical realities, and policy analysis, the study argues that economic growth must be complemented by environmental sustainability. The paper proposes a multidimensional framework for development and highlights key initiatives to achieve Viksit Bharat’s vision
