From ancient ideas of dharma and collective responsibility to modern constitutional democracy, India has developed distinctive approaches to social organization and political authority. This paper critically examines the philosophical foundations, historical evolution, institutional mechanisms, and contemporary challenges of Indian society and governance. Using interdisciplinary analysis, the study highlights the interaction between social diversity, democratic polity, and governance structures. The paper argues that Indian governance cannot be understood solely through Western political frameworks and must be analyzed within its socio-cultural context.
