Purba Medinipur situated within the littoral zone of West Bengal confronts heightened exposure toward tropical cyclonic systems along with storm surges together with catastrophic inundations alongside saline water ingress followed by riverine bank degradation and substantial agrarian output degradation. Such environmental vulnerabilities directly transform regional migration dynamics through the obliteration of productive household capital alongside the contraction of farm based employment opportunities together with escalating domestic debt burdens and the systemic erosion of local subsistence viability among rural domestic units. This investigation interrogates the precise linkages connecting ecological catastrophes with rural population outflows throughout Purba Medinipur directing dedicated empirical attention toward the specific socio economic channels through which environmental crises catalyze transient alongside seasonal together with protracted spatial displacements. Methodologically the inquiry synthesizes secondary empirical repositories procured from the Census of India along with peer reviewed scholarly treatises together with official post disaster damage evaluations and contemporary field investigations centered upon coastal Purba Medinipur. The analytical synthesis reveals that environmental shocks never function as singular isolated determinants of human mobility rather they operate synergistically across pre existing deprivation alongside chronic agrarian reliance together with precarious labor arrangements alongside pervasive landlessness and structural deficits in occupational diversification. Severe cyclonic episodes exemplified through Cyclone Amphan alongside Cyclone Yaas illustrate how recurrent ecological disturbances systematically dismantle agricultural assets along with residential infrastructure and localized labor absorption thereby institutionalizing migratory mobility as a primary household risk mitigation mechanism.
