In this context, skill development has emerged as a key strategy for enhancing employability, promoting entrepreneurship, and reducing socio-economic inequalities. This study examines the relationship between skill development and economic empowerment among marginalized groups, with special reference to a field study conducted in the Jhargram Sub-Division of West Bengal. Drawing on human capital theory and the capability approach, the study highlights how skill acquisition improves productivity, income generation, and livelihood security. The findings indicate that participation in vocational training and capacity-building programs enhances employment opportunities and encourages entrepreneurial activities, particularly among women associated with Self-Help Groups. These outcomes contribute to poverty reduction, economic resilience, and social empowerment. The study also examines the role of government initiatives in promoting skill development while identifying key challenges such as limited infrastructure and weak market linkages. It concludes that context-specific strategies and inclusive policies are essential for maximizing the impact of skill development on economic empowerment.

Keywords: Skill Development, Economic Empowerment, Marginalized Groups, Livelihood, Inclusive.

Page No: 351-356

download journal

Author: Ajoy Gopal Bera & Dr. Sudhir Kumar DOI Link: https://doi.org/10.70798/Bijmrd/03030042 Abstract: Economic empowerment is essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable development, yet marginalized communities continue to face structural barriers that restrict their participation in economic activities.
